In some good news, President Trump has signed a bill that puts an end to the partial government shutdown, something which now happens so frequently it should just be factored into every federal employee’s PTO.

The bad news? Nobody really cared about this, because just seconds later, when asked about elections, he said “I don’t know why the federal government doesn’t [run the election],” while citing the “crooked” 2020 election (which he fairly lost) and bemoaning all the states that are incompetent at running elections.

We can all now scratch ‘nationalising the election’ from our Stupid But Terrifying Sh*t Trump Says bingo card.

But those of you getting scared about America’s rapid descent into authoritarianism need not worry because, if you haven’t heard, Donald J. Trump is now the lifelong chair of the Board of Peace, a board which also includes Tony Blair and Nickolay Mladenov: two men who are famously opposed to war and corruption.

Deep breaths.

Everything will be ok.

Everything will be ok.

Everything will be ok.

Also me…

Coming today on America: In the Making…

To discuss the situation in Iran, I spoke with Sanam Naraghi Anderlini MBE, founder of the International Civil Society Action Network, and host of the excellent podcast If You Were in Charge. Sanam was born Iranian, but is now a citizen of both the US and UK, which is quite a unique situation to be in right now.

She has strong feelings about Trump’s new Board of Peace, and explains why America’s claim to be protecting the people of Iran simply doesn’t add up…

If you spend a good amount on Amazon, this card could easily be worth $100s in cash back every year. And — even better — you could get approved extremely fast. If approved, you’ll receive an insanely valuable welcome bonus deposited straight into your Amazon account, ready to use immediately.

You also don’t have to jump through any hoops to get this bonus. No extra work or special spending requirements. Get approved, and it’s yours.

This might be one of the most powerful cash back cards available, especially considering how much most people spend on Amazon each month. It gives you the chance to earn cash back on the purchases you’re already making, turning your routine shopping into something that actually pays you back.

If you shop at Amazon or Whole Foods, this card could help you earn meaningful cash back on every purchase you make. But this offer won’t last forever — and if you’re an Amazon Prime member, this card is as close to a no-brainer as it gets.

Set in the forests of upstate New York during the French and Indian War, James Fenimore Cooper’s 1826 novel has become one of the most enduring works of early American literature. It helped define the frontier myth, shaped American ideas about Native peoples, and influenced generations of writers, filmmakers, and cultural storytellers.

In this quickfire study notes, I explain how the United States grew from the 13 original states into the 50 states we have today, explaining the legal process of admission, major land acquisitions, political forces that shaped statehood, and the final additions of Alaska and Hawaii.
