On 4th July 2023, an American Studies grad turned award-winning podcast producer, teamed up with his old faculty at UEA for a passion project.
That project was America: A History - the podcast that answers a different question every week to understand the people, places and events that have shaped the USA.
Well, 97 guests, 102 episodes, 513 followers and 26,662 downloads later… we are going bigger, bolder, and better than ever.

As American Studies itself becomes increasingly under threat, we are in dire need of a platform that unites our global community, that continues to educate, inspire and inform. That is why we are delighted to be partnering with BAAS, and we hope you continue to enjoy the podcast.

To mark our 100th main episode, we sat down for an exclusive one on one conversation with Nobel Peace laureate Jody Williams, to discuss how she managed to change international law with nothing more than a fax machine and a bucket full of gumption.
Comic books are woven into the fabric of American pop culture, evolving from humble newspaper strips to a multi billion dollar industry. Today, comic book heroes and genres remain vibrant symbols of American imagination and reinvention, their influence reaching well beyond the printed page. So in this episode, Professor Julian Chambliss joins the podcast to explore the origins, cultural impact, and enduring popularity of comic books.
In this episode, Professor Kathleen Cummings and John Doughney - childhood friend of Pope Leo - explore the life, legacy, and cultural significance of the first American Pope. From his early years in Illinois all the way to the papacy, this is a story that both reflects and reshapes the American Catholic experience.
